Marvell launches Prestera 16 port- and 24 port- managed GigE packet processors with integrated SerDes interfaces for the SMB market

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Marvell® (Nasdaq:MRVL - News), a technology leader in the development of extreme broadband communications and storage solutions, today announced the availability of its high performance Prestera(TM)-DX160 and -DX240 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) packet processors with integrated SerDes interfaces. The new, Layer 2, managed-16 port and -24 port single-chip devices enable the lowest cost with the best power management solutions for the Small-to-Medium Business (SMB) market. Marvell also announced today that NETGEAR has selected the new Prestera - DX240 for their currently shipping GSM7224, a Layer 2 managed, 24-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch.

With the new Prestera-DX devices, the SMB market can now take advantage of high-end benefits in cost optimized solutions. The new stringent security standards such as VLANs and 802.1X Port Authentication are two examples of high-end benefits supported in the new Prestera-DX GbE devices. SMB customers will also benefit from the enterprise-class Quality of Service (QoS) features, which include DiffServ and 802.1p priority support, for such demanding applications as Voice-Over-IP (VOIP) and multimedia. IGMP snooping, another benefit for customers, provides for efficient streaming of video/audio content from the World Wide Web.
"The DX240 and DX160 were designed specifically for the SMB market," said Paul Valentine, Marvell's Senior Director, Product Marketing. "Our DX products offer Advanced QoS and security features expected in Enterprise products but in a cost competitive, low power form factor necessary for the SMB market. Through our DX products we are delivering the vision of Gigabit to the desktop."
