Cisco Jasper Eyes Mobile Management

Scott Ferguson

Not satisfied with Internet of Things (IoT), Cisco Jasper is eyeing up the mobile management market with a new platform that allows IT to automate what has been a mainly manual process.

Jasper is planning to roll out its Control Center for Mobile Enterprise on April 25 with Canadian telco Telus becoming the first service provider to offer the platform to its customers. Other service providers are expected to join as well, according to Jasper.

While the company already provides IoT management through its Control Center IoT service platform, it's the first time Jasper has moved into mobile management. Pallavi Vanacharla, the head of product marketing for enterprise mobility, said that the company's IoT customers were looking for the same level of management and automation for their enterprise mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets.

With Control Center for Mobile Enterprise, Jasper is looking to automate many of the manual functions of device management. For example, through a feature called enterprise grade self-serve, the platform gives IT departments the ability to manage multiple lines at once. This means IT staff can automatically add or take away features on phones, suspend subscriptions or reassign devices to different employees.

By offering automation and a unified view of an enterprise's mobile fleet, Vanacharla said that businesses and IT departments can set rules for how devices are managed and anticipate data usage spikes and other demands before bills come due.
