ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Performance Technologies (NASDAQ: PTIX), a leading developer of communication platforms and systems, today announced that Pine Belt Telephone & Wireless has installed the company's SEGway(TM) 6300 STP to enhance its basic SS7, Global Title Translation (GTT) and roaming capabilities.

Pine Belt, a leading provider of wireline and wireless services to parts of West Central Alabama, will use the SEGway 6300 to affordably extend its network roaming capacity and SS7 routing capability. The solution is an ideal fit for the company because it features enhanced GTT and offers critical scalability and functionality, giving Pine Belt the ability to immediately expand its service while also planning for future network enhancements.

"We ultimately chose Performance Technologies because the SEGway 6300's inherent capabilities met all of our quality and service requirements and of equal importance, their pricing structure was right. Purchasing this solution through the USDA Rural Development Telecommunications Program, or RUS, we were able to acquire a system that meets our immediate needs and enables us to look to future implementations without a significant cost upfront," said John Nettles, president and CEO of Pine Belt. "With the SEGway 6300, we received a product that is built to standard and came with installed capacity to allow us to grow the size of our SS7 network several times over. Throughout the selection, installation and cutover process, I couldn't have been more pleased with the technical expertise, responsiveness and helpfulness of everyone at Performance Technologies. This has truly been a rewarding network project."

Performance Technologies' SEGway 6300 is a robust, next-generation STP node that currently offers support for up to 96 SS7 links with an increase in link capacity available later this year. The solution operates in both a circuit-switched and an IP network, offering technological and economic advantages for small to mid-size carriers, as traditional STPs have been prohibitively expensive for all but the largest carriers to own.

"Pine Belt and other rural carriers choose our SEGway STP solutions because they are designed to meet their immediate capacity and capability requirements, enabling these carriers to compete effectively with larger carriers," said Michael Skarzynski, president and CEO for Performance Technologies. "Performance Technologies' SEGway products provide an affordable and scalable way for our customers to take control of their network, while providing room to grow."
