IRVING, Texas -- NEC Corporation (NASDAQ:NIPNY - News) and other members of the OSS through Java(TM) Initiative announced today the final release of the OSS IP Billing API developed through the Java Community Process(sm)(JCP). The OSS IP Billing API provides interfaces for negotiating the collection of billing data, specifying schedules for data collection, and performing filter-based queries of usage data. The API enables the transfer of billing information in a manner that is independent of the billing record content and format. Since the API transport mechanism does not need to be re-defined and customized with the introduction of each new service, integration is easier and faster, allowing developers to concentrate on the unique value provided by each new service. The most recent of a series of OSS through Java APIs, the OSS IP Billing API helps eliminate one of the barriers to profitability - the need to create unique interfaces between each vendor's application. OSS through Java APIs are designed to speed the deployment of new OSS (Operations Support System) and BSS (Business Support System) solutions. The OSS through Java Design Guidelines are the basis for these open standard interfaces and establish best practices for the development of new OSS/BSS solutions. Application interoperability is ensured by utilizing standardized architecture and common objects for the specification of Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM)) and XML interfaces. Specifying APIs in this manner facilitates both tightly and loosely integrated OSS solutions. Mitsuharu Yoshida, General Manager, Network Solutions Operation Unit, NEC Corporation, said, "NEC is pleased to be the Specification lead of the OSS IP Billing API. The collaboration of the expert group and the other members of the OSS through Java Initiative has produced a high-quality result. NEC's participation as a Core Team Member of OSS through Java Initiative reflects our commitment to encouraging open standardization and co-operation in the industry. NEC believes the royalty free availability of the source code for the Reference Implementation of these APIs will encourage the industry to move towards a new level of openness and interoperability."
