TOKYO -- NEC Corporation, a leading provider of microwave and optical solutions, and Transmode, a leading provider of Optical Networking Solutions, today announced that Moldova-based Starnet has extended and improved its national optical network with the installation of a Transmode TM-Series DWDM network.

Starnet is Moldova’s main provider of Internet services across the country, which became independent in 1991 following the break-up of the former Soviet Union.

The company offers its clients services ranging from IPTV and high-speed broadband to web hosting and server installation. StarNet also runs a Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network on which they offer dedicated internet services.

NEC, one of Transmode’s main installation and distribution partners, has managed the implementation of StarNet’s new optical network, which is based on eight 10 Gbit/s DWDM channels. The key Transmode system deployed is the TM-3000, which is configured to allow for significant expansion in transmission capacity as future demand grows.
