LAS VEGAS -- Omnitron Systems Technology, Inc., the premier manufacturer of fiber media converters for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks, announced today at Networld+Interop the addition of a new module to its iConverterTM managed media converter product family. Supporting the IEEE 802.3ab and IEEE 802.3z standards, the iConverter GX/T provides 10/100/1000Base-T unshielded twisted pair (UTP) to 1000Base-X (fiber) media and speed conversion. This new iConverter extends high-speed network distances up to 80 kilometers with advanced, Gigabit Ethernet fiber optic technologies. The iConverter GX/T models are available to support multimode, single-mode, and single-fiber options. They support SC, MT-RJ, and LC connectors. The UTP port supports 10/100/1000 speeds and half or full-duplex auto-negotiation with both hardware and software manual override controls to set the desired speed and duplex mode. The GX/T features user-selectable Link Propagate, Link Segment and Remote Fault Detection modes that facilitate quick fault detection, isolation, and reporting and increase network uptime and reliability. The GX/T can be used in a managed or an unmanaged configuration. The GX/T as other iConverter modules, can be managed in-band or out-of-band through Telnet, through Omnitron's NetOutlookTM network management software or through standard SNMP software like HP OpenViewTM. The management feature enables the network administrator to remotely monitor and configure the GX/T iConverter units or diagnose technical problems while minimizing the number of costly remote service calls. The management agent can also generate traps to report events such as module insertion or removal, link up or down, authentication violations and power or temperature range violations. The reported traps allow the network administrator to take a corrective action as soon as a problem is reported, thus minimizing network down time and saving money.Omnitron Systems Technology Inc.
