CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- Optical Communication Products Inc. (Nasdaq:OCPI - News), a manufacturer of fiber optic subsystems and modules for metropolitan area networks and high-speed premises networks, today announced the availability of its High Sensitivity Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplex Transceivers in the industry standard Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) format with extended transmission distance of over 100 km. OCP is offering these high performance GBIC transceivers to satisfy the demand for longer distances in enterprise and metropolitan networks. The DTR-1250-SM-GB-HS-CWDM GBIC Transceivers are hot-pluggable modules designed for use in Gigabit Ethernet applications. These transceivers are available in eight wavelength channels at nominally 1470 nm, 1490 nm, 1510 nm, 1530 nm, 1550 nm, 1570 nm, 1590 nm and 1610 nm. A high power DFB laser and a high sensitivity Avalanche Photodiode Detector (APD) receiver are used to achieve a guaranteed optical link budget of 30 dB minimum, which corresponds to a transmission distance of at least 100 km. "With these high sensitivity CWDM GBIC transceivers, our enterprise customers can significantly reduce the cost of increasing the capacity on their metropolitan networks. Our new transceivers not only extend the transmission distance that can be achieved without using optical amplifiers but also allows users to upgrade their existing equipment to get an eight-times increase in bandwidth over an existing fiber installation," said Muoi V. Tran, OCP's chief executive officer and president. Optical Communication Products Inc. (OCPI)
