TORONTO -- Sigma Systems (www.sigma-, the global leader in broadband operational support systems (OSS), has partnered with Camiant (, the premiere provider of intelligent PacketCable MultiMedia-based policy servers and application managers, to deliver automated service tier upgrades and bandwidth on demand to cable subscribers.

Through interconnection of Sigma's Service Management Platform to the Camiant PacketCable Multimedia-based Service Controller, cable operators are able to rev up bandwidth availability during high demand and effect dynamic changes in subscribers' service tiers and associated bandwidth entitlement. These service order changes are managed dynamically without having to modify cable modem configuration files, engage in manual and error-prone processes, or reboot the cable modem itself. The entire service management process, including order capture, order management, service provisioning and network resource allocation, is fully integrated via these leading vendors' solution set.

Sigma and Camiant have collaborated to support three key service management scenarios. The first scenario includes the ability for a cable operator to instantiate a "bulk" service upgrade for an entire set of subscribers (a.k.a. a promotional service tier). The second scenario involves the subscriber directly requesting a dynamic service tier upgrade from the operator's member services Web portal (a.k.a. upgrade from Bronze to Gold with guaranteed QoS). The final scenario involves the subscriber requesting bandwidth-on-demand for a specified time interval (a.k.a. pay as you go).

With the automation of these key service scenarios, subscribers benefit from faster download speeds, improved service quality and enhanced service environment; cable operators benefit from increased revenues as a result of providing these enhanced services.
