RICHARDSON, Texas -- RHK, notable market researchers in the optical transport industry, has released their optical transport research. Fujitsu was named the overall metro market share leader with over 29% share, repeating the company's success from last year. A significant portion of this achievement is attributable to the ILEC segment of the market, where Fujitsu enjoys considerable success. Additionally, Fujitsu shipped a number of new products, including the FLASHWAVE(R) 4500 multiservice optical transport platform, through 2001 that gained traction with major tier one carriers. "Fujitsu's overwhelming position as a SONET ADM supplier to the RBOCs allowed it to maintain its leadership of the metro market." says Brian Van Steen, Senior Analyst of Optical Transport at RHK. "Fujitsu's market share increased to 50.6% percent in 2001 from 42.3% percent in 2000, as its revenues fell less than the market as a whole." Despite the decline in metro carrier spending from 2000 to 2001, Fujitsu held its ground as the leading supplier to the metro market. With more than 275,000 network elements deployed to date, Fujitsu continues to demonstrate its thorough understanding of the optical transport market both in terms of the products its ships and its unique relationship with its customers.
