November 17, 2005
LONDON -- Kasenna, The IPTV Company, today announced it has been chosen by Lincor Solutions, a specialist in the delivery and management of integrated digital on-demand entertainment and communication services for the healthcare sector, to provide its IP video streaming solutions for Lincor's MEDIVista solution. The MEDIVista product, in conjunction with Lincor's exclusive UK partner Premier Telesolutions, is set to make on-demand services for patient entertainment and clinical services available directly to patient's beds in UK NHS (the National Health Service) hospitals where Premier operates services.
The initial implementation of over 6,000 bedside terminals in around 15 hospitals around the UK is complete and is being undertaken as part of the UK government's Patient Power project to update and modernise the NHS. By completion of this planned phase of the project, scheduled for mid-2006, a total of 10,000 patient beds will be provided with the new technologically advanced services known as “ Premier Bedside”.
Lincor's MEDIVista solution is designed to provide entertainment services, including IP telephony, IPTV, e-mail, movies-on-demand, networked games and hospital-specific content direct to a patient’s bedside. The television-based solution also gives medical staff secure access to electronic patient records (EPR) at the point of care.
MEDIVista will use Kasenna media servers, incorporating Kasenna MediaBase XMP 8.0 video delivery software, to stream self-service video content direct to patient bedsides. Kasenna's Stream Cluster Manager technology will enable full scalability of video delivery capacity and provide a reliable and scalable platform to support future anticipated service growth throughout 2006 and 2007.
"This project represents the start of a significant new era for patient care," says Richard Cooke, CEO at Lincor. "One of the largest roll-outs of digital communications within the NHS to date, it's set to revolutionise the patient experience at all hospitals."
"We are delighted to have been chosen by Lincor for this important project”, adds Mark Gray, CEO and Chairman at Kasenna. “Based on open standards, our media servers and video-on-demand platform combine high performance, broad operability, and full service network management for efficient delivery of IPTV video services today's and well into the future. With Lincor's experience in the healthcare market and our scalable, extensible platform, the collaboration gives Premier the ideal solution for the NHS."
