RESTON, Va. -- The Tata managed Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL), , a Company incorporated under the Indian Companies Act, 1956, today announced that its U.S. affiliate, VSNL America Inc.(VSNL America), has received notice from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the granting of an International Common Carrier 214 License. The license was granted in response to VSNL America’s application to operate as an international telecommunications carrier.

“With the granting of this new license, VSNL reaches a key milestone in its strategic plan to bring the highest quality telecommunications services to U.S. multinational corporations looking to penetrate key emerging markets such as India,” says Vinod Kumar, head of the International Business Group, VSNL. “We are delighted that the FCC entrusted VSNL America this important license, which will enable origination and termination of all forms of telecommunications both domestically and overseas as per the said license.”

The FCC granted the license to VSNL America in part based on its success in reaching an agreement with the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Homeland Security to ensure that U.S. law enforcement, national security and public safety are fully protected. Based on that agreement, those three U.S. Government agencies informed the FCC that they have no objection to permitting VSNL America to operate as a licensed U.S. international telecommunications carrier.
