IEEE Fellow Joins Astral Point
April 3, 2000
CHELMSFORD, MA--Astral Point Communications, a pioneer in optical networking, today announced that Dr. Pierre A. Humblet, a 15-year MIT professor, IEEE Fellow and one of the country's leading researchers in the field of optical networking, has joined the company as Chief Technical Officer. He will be responsible for strategic directions and will work with engineering to develop substantial intellectual property and build on the company's strong patent portfolio.
Dr. Humblet, working with others on the engineering team, filed four patents on behalf of the company for technologies that will help telecommunications carriers improve services in - and generate new revenues from - their metropolitan area networks. The patents enable fast, reliable, scalable protection and restoration in mesh networks; allow remote network management; reduce costs while improving the performance and scalability of add/drop multiplexers; and efficiently emulate the configuration ease and transparency of Time Division Multiplexing.
In 1993, Dr. Humblet was named an IEEE Fellow by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He also holds twelve issued patents and has been published in more than seventy conference and journal publications.
