COPENHAGEN -- At the European Conference on Optical Communications(ECOC) today, Multiplex, Inc. announced the introduction of the RP192, an APD (avalanche photodiode) receiver. The RP192 offers outstanding sensitivity (typically –26 dBm at a bit-error-rate of 10E-12) and bandwidth (better than 8 GHz). It is based on a highly reliable platform that utilizes planar (versus mesa) technology. Current packaging is Multiplex’s small-form butterfly, with unique ground-signal-ground-signal-ground differential outputs.Next-generation models will feature packaging based on the surface-mount receiver MSA’s (multi-source agreement’s) specifications, with availability in the fourth quarter of 2002. The RP192 provides the enabling technology that will allow Multiplex to produce a true LR2 (80km) transponder to meet Telcordia’s GR-253 specifications.Multiplex is currently sampling the RP192 to key customers. Volume production is anticipated by the end of the year. The RP192 is available in versions for 10Gb/s and 12.5 Gb/s applications, as well as in digital and analog variations.“The RP192 represents a solid entrée for Multiplex into the high-end APD receiver market,” said Daniel Gay, Multiplex’s director of marketing. “With the addition of APD solutions, Multiplex now offers a full complement of innovative receivers to meet virtually any customer requirement.”Multiplex Inc.
