Video Calling Coming Soon to Skype

Skype, which now counts 39 million users worldwide, pioneered the use of peer-to-peer (P2P) technology for delivering voice over IP (VoIP) services. Now, another European software start-up, Dialcom Networks, is about to release software that will support videoconferencing through the Skype network. Next week Dialcom plans to release a free P2P video plug-in called Spontania Video4Skype. With the software, Skype voice users with a webcam will also be able to place video-calls. Dialcom says the software will offer high-quality real-time video -- even in full-screen mode -- with end-to-end encryption and firewall/NAT traversal. Yet another P2P application to compete for limited upstream cable bandwidth.Increasingly, the 'V' in VoIP stands for video. More information is available at http://www.dialcom.com
