LifeSize Communications Inc. today introduced its latest software to enable mobile HD video streaming, aimed at enterprises that want to deliver video to mobile workers over a wide variety of devices. (See LifeSize Enables Mobile HD Streaming.)
The newest additions to its LifeSize Video Center, introduced last year, are intended to make it easier for enterprise IT managers to send corporate videos to multiple devices, by letting them choose their bandwidth or by using Automatic Adaptive Streaming to set the video bandwidth based on the device and network that is being used, says Rafi Anuar, product manager at LifeSize. "This eliminates buffering that can compromise the quality of the video," Anuar says.
Other ease-of-use factors include an option for storing an infinite capacity of video in the network and one-button delivery to a wider variety of devices including iPads, iPods and iPhones, with Android devices soon to come.
Why this matters
By making video delivery over wireless devices easier, LifeSize hopes to drive more business use of mobile video, because enterprises trail consumers in this arena. By hiding complexity for users and keeping costs down, LifeSize expects to expand the market considerably.
