MCI Buys Out Belgian Partner

MCI completes acquisition of its Belgian joint venture, MCI Belgium-Luxembourg; will combine operations with its UUNet subsidiary

ASHBURN, Va. -- MCI (MCIA.PK) today announced that it has completed its acquisition of the 50 percent share of its Belgian joint venture, MCI Belgium-Luxembourg, formerly held by Blomhof SA/NV (SUEZ and Ackermans & van Haaren NV) following approval by the Belgian Competition Council.

The transaction will allow MCI to combine the operations of its UUNET subsidiary in Belgium and Luxembourg with those of the former MCI Belgium-Luxembourg joint venture. The new combined company will offer businesses in both countries - as well as multinational corporations with operations in Belgium and Luxembourg - the simplicity of dealing with a single-source provider for all their IP, data and voice communications requirements with complete customer service and technical support across all products and services.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
