Orange to launch FTTH pilot in Catalonia and Madrid

PARIS -- The Orange Spanish CEO, Jean Marc Vignolles, announced the fiber optic pilot to be launched by Orange Spain in Catalonia. Jean Marc Vignolles made these announcements during the “World Mobile Congress”. This project confirms Orange's drive to develop the Information society in the region of Catalonia. Orange will also launch a similar fiber optic pilot in Madrid.

Orange will launch a fiber optic pilot during 2008. The pilot will cover a few thousand users – private and corporate - which will be able to benefit from advanced services such as: access to high speed Internet with speeds of up to 100Mbps, high definition TV channels, and the possibility to watch television via an IP address on various television units in the home simultaneously.
According to Jean Marc Vignolles, Spanish CEO of Orange, “with this project, Orange aims to contribute to the development of the Information society in Catalonia in a decisive manner”. “This pilot will continue, providing the regulatory environment can guarantee reasonable scope for competition and equal access to these new infrastructures”, he added.
