FiOS Comes to Rye

RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- Residents of this WestchesterCounty village are a major step closer to having a real choice for theircable television services, thanks to a vote Tuesday night (April 24) by theRye Brook Board of Trustees to approve a video franchise that authorizesVerizon to offer its FiOS TV service, delivered over the most advancedfiber-optic network straight to customers' homes.

"This is great news for residents of Rye Brook, who now will have a newchoice for their video entertainment," said Monica Azare, Verizon seniorvice president for New York and Connecticut. "Verizon's FiOS TV offersconsumers something they've never had before, with incredible pictures andsound clarity and innovative new services -- all from a brand they know andtrust."

Rye Brook joins a growing list of New York communities that are pavingthe way for competition and choice in the television market. In addition toRye Brook, Verizon has been granted video franchises in the WestchesterCounty communities of White Plains, Irvington, Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry,Tarrytown, Eastchester, Mount Kisco, Elmsford, Port Chester, Tuckahoe andthe Town of Greenburgh. Verizon also has video franchises in the RocklandCounty communities of Airmont, Piermont, Orangetown, Clarkstown, Nyack,South Nyack, Upper Nyack and Grandview-on-Hudson; and on Long Island in thevillages of Massapequa Park, Cedarhurst, Laurel Hollow, Lynbrook, Mineola,East Rockaway, Farmingdale, Valley Stream, Freeport and Williston Park, andin the towns of Huntington, Smithtown, Hempstead and Oyster Bay.

As with all local franchise approvals in New York, the agreementbetween Verizon and Rye Brook is subject to review by the New York StatePublic Service Commission.
