MILAN -- Telecom Italia, one of the world's largest service providers, continues to enable the broadband evolution through the strength of its services portfolio and has extended the current broadband infrastructure.

Telecom Italia market leadership has been built through its effort to offer value-added services, such as broadband aggregation, leased line, and Multiprotocol Label Switching Virtual Private Network services to executive business and residential customers. Telecom Italia has decided to enlarge its broadband network infrastructure, currently based on Cisco 7513 Routers and Cisco 6400 NAS platforms, with the introduction of the new generation broadband router Cisco 10000 Series.

"With the adoption of the Cisco 10000 series routers in our network infrastructure we can really increase our market penetration. The feature's richness, platform's scalability and the level of reliability of Cisco 10000 will allow Telecom Italia to enlarge the number of supported subscribers. Furthermore, providing IP/MPLS Broadband aggregation and Leased Line services, using the same platform, will allow optimizing our service delivery efficiency, simplifying the provisioning chain and reducing the operational cost of service," said Stefano Nocentini, Senior Vice President of Network Engineering at Telecom Italia.

The Cisco 10000 Series is the industry's only edge router that delivers consistent, traffic independent, high performance features for carriers deploying IP/MPLS VPN services to broadband and private line customers. The Cisco 10000 Series dramatically reduces the cost of broadband subscriber services with line-rate delivery tightly coupled with Quality of Service and other key enabling features. This unique combination helps service providers improve operational efficiency and increases revenue potential for broadband subscriber services.
