Nortel's Alteon platforms and Passport 8600 Ethernet switches get a boost to enhance options and drive down costs

SANTA CLARA, CA--NortelNetworks (NYSE:NT)(TSX:NT.) today announced product improvements toits Ethernet switching platforms that are intended to provideincreased performance, availability, security and scalability.

These improvements will provide more options for customer deployments, and have been designed to minimize the cost andcomplexity of networks for today's business applications.

The improvements will increase the options for customers to customize networking solutions that are best suited to meet the needs of mission-critical applications, employees, business partners, consultants and customers.

Extended capabilities -- available now -- for Nortel NetworksPassport 8600 Intelligent Routing Switch with new software release 3.3include support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet for both local and wide areanetworks, as well as for Optical Ethernet solutions.

Businesses will benefit from increased application optimization incorporate networks with the added intelligence and increasedperformance to be enabled by Nortel Networks Alteon 2224 ApplicationSwitch. Also, large enterprise customers and service providers will beable to increase network availability with Alteon Link Optimizer forwide-area network link load balancing and multi-layer security. Alteon2224 and Alteon Link Optimizer will be available later in November.
