MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- Building on its leadership in data networking for service providers, Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today formally unveiled its "service intelligent" Internet Protocol (IP) network strategy and a new member of its IP services switch family, the SpringTide 7000. Beyond Internet access and connectivity, Lucent's solutions help service providers offer lucrative, business-quality IP services, including secure IP Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and "follow-me" services that give users a customized network experience, regardless of where or how they access the network.

"In the current environment, service providers will thrive only if they can deliver services beyond Internet connectivity and broadband transport," said Janet Davidson, president, Lucent Technologies' InterNetworking Systems Group. "Our 'service intelligent' approach enables carriers to move beyond commodity Internet offerings toward the new, highly-profitable world of business-quality IP services like IP VPNs, content delivery and application-specific networking."
