Digital Lightwave Expands GigE Test

Digital Lightwave NIC achieves 48-port, high-density Ethernet testing breakthrough

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Digital Lightwave(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:DIGL), a leading provider of optical networking technology and test instruments, today announced the addition of 48-port high-density Ethernet to the Network Information Computer(R) (NIC(R)) product line. With new high-density Ethernet modules, the NIC product is ideally suited for the converged telecom and datacom market's testing needs. Utilizing the high-density modules, a single NIC Plus(R) instrument can perform up to 48 simultaneous Ethernet tests at 1 Gigabit.

The NIC, when equipped with High-Density Ethernet, PDH and Optical Multirate modules, uniquely serves as a single-box solution applicable to both datacom and telecom markets. With optional T-Carrier, E-Carrier, SONET, SDH, OTN, and ATM, end users are enabled to perform a broad range of testing on today's most advanced networks.

Capitalizing on the independent and simultaneous testing capabilities of the NIC platform, the new Ethernet modules provide three times the port density of its previous product offerings and achieves the industry's highest Gigabit Ethernet port density configuration in a portable instrument. Customers with high density Ethernet demands will be enabled to test all ports of an interface module simultaneously as well as test multiple circuits concurrently, facilitating significant cost and time savings. High-density testing is applicable to customers in research and development, manufacturing and a variety of high-speed field applications.

The new high-density Ethernet module features eight Ethernet 10/100/1000 electrical ports and four 1GigE SFP optical ports. For higher speed requirements, NIC units can be configured with up to two 10GigE XFP optical ports. The new Ethernet testing capabilities will be available on all new NIC products or as an upgrade to existing NIC products in June of 2005.
