BASKING RIDGE, N.J. -- AT&T today announced that it has fortified its AT&T Worldnet Service with the integration of one of the industry's most powerful anti-virus protection programs. It also announced new e-mail features that make it easy and convenient for consumers to switch to AT&T from other ISPs. The new features, in addition to other recent service enhancements, make the company the first national ISP to provide both anti-virus and anti-spam protection automatically as a free, standard feature of its service. "Most computer viruses are spread through e-mail messages, including junk e-mail or 'spam,' making spam more than an annoyance, but a threat to consumer's computers, and the information stored in them," says Ray Solnik, vice president and general manager of AT&T Worldnet Service. "By enhancing our service with anti-virus protection and anti-spam technology, we're greatly improving our subscriber experience and substantially eliminating threats that target their PCs." AT&T is deploying Brightmail® anti-virus software powered by Symantec Norton AntiVirus. Brightmail is a technology leader in spam and virus management software. Symantec's anti-virus detection and removal technology is found on more desktops than any other anti-virus software in the world. The virus-identifying and blocking technology eliminates contaminated e-mails before they can cause damage to computer files and spread throughout the network. AT&T Corp.
