PARIS -- Alcatel Optronics (Paris: CGO and NASDAQ: ALAO), a world leader in opto electronic components for telecommunications systems, today extended its family of optical interfaces with a new SDH/Sonet DWDM 2R receiver, the Alcatel 1926 SDH Rx 2R. Dedicated to metro and long haul DWDM applications, this sub-system is fully compliant with STM-16/OC-48 transmitter and receiver multi-source agreement. Within a compact package, it offers high optical performance and reduces system operating costs. The new standardized 2R optical receiver of Alcatel Optronics is particularly suited for metro and long-haul DWDM applications. It provides high flexibility whatever the number of optical channels and amplifiers, showing high sensitivity even in an optically noisy line and allowing decision threshold adjustment to correctly interpret the 0s and 1s of the optical signal. Moreover, it operates in a broad bit rate range, from 100 Mbit/s to 2.7 Gbit/s, and its amazing high optical sensitivity allows it to operate over distances up to 320 km. To manage its multi-rate capability, this sub-system doesn't use any clock recovery making it more cost efficient. "With its MSA-standardized 24-pin package and its ability to operate in a broad range of bit rates, this highly sensitive receiver offers the flexibility requested by our customers," explained Philippe Bregi, Chief Operating Officer of Alcatel Optronics. "Moreover, the planar technology used for manufacturing the in-house APD-preamp detector, the choice of a 2R structure and the low power consumption lead to a cost effective product." The Alcatel 1926 SDH Rx 2R is a 2R (Re-amplification/Re-shaping) receiver which contains an in house III V APD detector integrated with a preamplifier ASIC. Its 30 dB dynamic range allows it to support an optical level variation factor of 1000. Within a compact standardized 24-pin package of 58.7x35.7x8.9 mm3 (2.3x1.5x0.35 in3), it provides the same electrical interface with a single power supply for all targeted applications. Moreover, its low power consumption (1 W typically) reduces systems' operating costs. Alcatel SA
