Agilent to Support Ciena OSRP

Will add support for Ciena's Optical Switching and Routing Protocol to its new optical switching and routing test system

PALO ALTO -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A), a leading provider of innovative technologies for communications and life sciences, today announced that it will add support for CIENA Corporation’s Optical Switching and Routing Protocol (OSRP) to Agilent’s recently announced system for testing optical switching and routing functions.Agilent’s new solution allows service providers and equipment manufacturers to test and verify the performance and interoperability of the hardware and software responsible for directing traffic carried on optical wavelengths and for dynamically requesting optical bandwidth across core networks.

“As an important step toward an open internetworking model, the Optical Signaling and Routing Protocol enables the dynamic responsiveness and flexibility that end-users are now requiring of telecommunications networks,” said Beth Perry, senior vice president, CIENA’s Core Switching Division. “Agilent’s addition of OSRP to its system will help our customers more quickly exploit the potential of the intelligent optical Internet, and it supports our ongoing efforts in defining industry standards to speed the delivery of open optical networking.”
