Ericsson signs ENGINE agreement to modernize Egypt's national telecommunications network

STOCKHOLM -- The agreement between Telecom Egypt and Ericsson is the basis of a long- term strategic partnership, valued to about EUR 200 million over the coming five years. It supports Telecom Egypt in the ongoing implementation of its ambitious plans to expand and modernize the National Telecommunication Infrastructure in order to meet the growing demands for communication and information services by the community.

In addition to access expansion, an important element of the frame agreement is to accelerate the migration of the core backbone network from a circuit-switched to an open layered packet-based mega network.

Competence development and transfer of knowledge form a vital cornerstone in the agreement in order to support Telecom Egypt in achieving its goals to stay competitive in the dynamic and open telecommunications marketplace in Egypt.
