China Telecom Uses UTStarcom DSLAMs

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- UTStarcom, Inc. (Nasdaq: UTSI), a global leader in IP access networking and services, today announced that it has won a contract with China Telecom Corporation (CTC) to deploy approximately 130,000 lines of its AN-2000(TM) IB IP-based digital subscriber line access multiplexer (IP-DSLAM) solution in six regions throughout Mainland China.

The deployment will occur with local CTC operators in the Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Anhui, Guangdong, and Shangdong provinces, as well as the Tibet autonomous region in southwestern China.

"We have seen a growing trend over the last two years of operators transitioning from ATM to IP-based DSLAM technology in the China market to leverage the technological advantages and cost-effectiveness of IP in delivering revenue-generating triple play services," said Jack Wu, vice president of broadband, optical and CPE for UTStarcom China. "UTStarcom strongly believes that high-speed, triple play applications over broadband, such as voice-over-IP (VoIP) and TV-over-IP (TVoIP), will drive IP-DSLAM deployment in the future, and we are working closely in this area with operators in China now."
