HORSHAM, Pa. -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that the company has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Quantum Bridge Communications(R), Inc., a leading provider of fiber to the premises (FTTP) solutions based in Andover, Massachusetts. Motorola intends to purchase the privately held company in an all cash transaction. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

This acquisition complements Motorola's existing multiservice technology, enhancing the company's ability to offer a full-service access platform that broadband network operators can deploy today to deliver "triple play" and next-generation advanced services. Our customers will be able to leverage Motorola's proven heritage in digital video headend technology -- already deployed and serving customers in over 2,060 systems worldwide -- in addition to transport infrastructure, conditional access, and "connected home" consumer premise equipment.

The completion of the acquisition is subject to customary closing and regulatory conditions and is expected to occur in the second quarter.
