FREMONT, Calif. -- Ikanos Communications, developer of Smart Silicon for Profitable Broadband(TM), today announced that Millinet, a major supplier of VDSL equipment in Korea, has chosen to use Ikanos' SmartLeap(TM) 8100 Very-High-Bit-Rate Digital Subscriber Line-Discrete Multi-Tone (VDSL-DMT) programmable chipset for its CVL-D5048 system in the fast-growing 50+ Mbps VDSL market with Korea Telecom (KT). Millinet previously considered VDSL-Quadrature Amplitude Modification (VDSL-QAM) technology for its systems, but switched to Ikanos once results of the VDSL Olympics were made public, determining the VDSL-DMT technology superior over VDSL-QAM. "The results of the VDSL Olympics made this selection much easier for our company and our carrier customers," said Lee Sang-Chul, president and chief executive officer of Millinet. "Ikanos' programmable solutions are the only production VDSL chipset on the market that supports 50+ Mbps and the longest reach. The results of the VDSL Olympics prove that Ikanos chipsets and the VDSL-DMT standard are the only choice for companies developing future-proof technologies that offer services now."
