August 13, 2001
PALO ALTO, Calif., and BOSTON -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today announced that VIPswitch has selected Agilent's integrated 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) test tools to speed development and delivery of its carrier-class networking equipment. VIPswitch, developer of a new class of application aware terabit switch/routers for next-generation service providers, plans to use Agilent's 10 GbE solutions for testing of its V-MAN terabit switch/routers for Metro Area Networks (MANs). VIPswitch will become one of the first users of Agilent's new 10GBASE-R (LAN serial) interface module for the Agilent RouterTester, enabling real-time, real-world testing of 10 GbE traffic, at wire-speed. An emerging high-speed transmission technology, 10 GbE is based on the widely deployed Ethernet networking standard and is gaining acceptance as a key element of next-generation optical MANs. VIPswitch products allow next-generation service providers to deliver premium services and real-time applications to their subscribers at wire speed in the metropolitan area network (MAN) with optical 10 GbE to 40 GbE connections. "Agilent's RouterTester is at the forefront of 10 GbE technology and standards, combining Internet scale wire-speed traffic generation with protocol emulation and conformance test suites," said Brian Bowyer, senior vice president, product development for VIPswitch. "Agilent surpassed their competitors not only by proposing the most complete 10 GbE solution at the best price, but also by demonstrating exceptional responsiveness and quickly providing clear answers to all our technical questions."
