Siemens Communications provides VOIP solution to Swisscom for its Bluewin Phone Service
April 19, 2005
MUNICH -- Siemens Communications has delivered a complete VoIP (Voice over IP) solution to the fixed network division of the Swiss carrier Swisscom. With this solution the carrier can offer its customers triple-play services – voice, data and images – nationwide via DSL broadband. This also provides the basis for the new "Bluewin Phone Service" from Swisscom, which offers private broadband customers innovative functions such as voice transmission via the Internet Protocol and video communication.
"We chose the Siemens solution since it not only offers innovative functions, but also supports the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). In addition, it has adaptable user portals with localization options, flexible development environments and application interfaces", said Frank Dederichs, Head of Strategy & Business Development at Swisscom Fixnet Wholesale. "The system integration and support services from Siemens will ensure smooth network operation."
The VoIP platform from Siemens consists primarily of the Surpass hiE 9200 Softswitch and the Surpass hiG 1200 VoIP Gateway. These systems were selected by Swisscom following a successful concept test phase, and approved for nationwide use after thorough tests.
