Swisscom Mobile opts for Surpass hiS 700 standalone signaling technology from Siemens ICN
October 4, 2002
MUNICH -- Siemens Information and Communication Networks (IC Networks) has been awarded a contract by Swisscom Mobile AG, Bern, Switzerland, to supply, install, and maintain Siemens’ Surpass hiS 700 standalone (STP) signaling technology and NetManager network management system. The signaling systems, among the most efficient on the market, will be employed in Swisscom Mobile’s network. This further order for Surpass technology underscores Siemens’ leading role in the area of signaling technology for carriers.Surpass hiS standalone signaling technology will perform the function of a Standalone Signaling Transfer Point (SA-STP) in Swisscom Mobile’s network; later on it will also serve as a Standalone Signaling Gateway (SA-SG). As a transfer point, this technology forwards signaling information in a separate network structure, the signaling overlay network. This is done using the Signaling System No. 7 (SS7) standardized signaling protocol for voice networks. After a software upgrade to a signaling gateway, alongside the STP function the systems will also permit connection to the Next Generation Internet by managing to easily link different technologies such as TDM, ATM or IP using new, efficient protocols.Swisscom AGSiemens Information and Communications Networks Inc.
