PICMG 3.5 subcommittee sends specification for 'PICMG 3.5 RapidIOR for AdvancedTCA Systems' to ballot
April 6, 2005
AUSTIN, Texas -- The PICMG 3.5 subcommittee has reached a major milestone in the development of the "PICMG 3.5 RapidIOR for AdvancedTCA Systems" specification and sent it to a general ballot by the PICMG membership. This specification defines the design rules and guidelines for implementation of a RapidIO interconnect-based node and RapidIO fabric cards on the extended fabric in an ATCA solution based on the PICMG 3.0 standard. Key attributes of the specification include how RapidIO signaling is used over the Fabric Interface of the PICMG 3.0 base specification, which configurations (1x Serial, 4x Serial, etc.) are appropriate, and overall system management features.
"Mapping RapidIO onto AdvancedTCA brings a best-in-class open fabric interconnect to a best-in-class open platform environment," said Dave Wickliff of Lucent Technologies and Chairman of the PICMG 3.5 Subcommittee. "With its scalability, reliability and data streaming features, RapidIO enables a whole new category of applications for AdvancedTCA."
