ETSI Touts Testing Language
Demonstrates the continued uptake and use of TTCN-3 in diverse fields of applicatio
June 15, 2005
SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS, France -- The annual International TTCN-3 User Conference for test experts using the ETSI scripting language TTCN-3 (Testing and Test Control Notation) was recently held at ETSI. The theme this year was to show the continued uptake and use of TTCN-3 in diverse fields of application. The conference demonstrated that TTCN-3 is used in both small and large development projects and is seen by many as a key component to efficient and cost effective validation and testing.
Detailed presentations showed the increased use of the language outside of the classical telecoms domain. This includes new Internet-related protocols such as IPv6 and RIPng, Intelligent Transport Systems (automotive and railway), financial sector applications and even web content. This wide range shows the potential of TTCN-3 to become a leader in its field. Indeed, TTCN-3 is being seen by many as the key component in a unified testing environment in their companies.
To promote the use of TTCN-3 conference called for moves to set up repositories for common TTCN-3 code libraries, adaptation software and protocol codecs. The ETSI Technical Committee MTS (Methods for Testing and Specification) already has a project of this nature under way and confirmed that it will take the TTCN-3 user community needs into account.
The Conference technical chair, Dr. Gyorgy Rethy of Ericsson said:
"TTCN-3 is one of the key factors of test automation and hence increasing efficiency of testing. As a result, TTCN-3 has almost completely replaced earlier TTCN 2 test solutions in Ericsson and has entered other areas as well. The use of TTCN-3 is now growing in many other companies and research projects, and considering the presentations of this conference I expect a quick expansion of TTCN-3 during the coming years."
