Following a recent DOCSIS 4.0 interop focused on security, CableLabs and its Kyrio subsidiary are preparing a third D4.0 interop that will center on proactive network maintenance, an area focusing on network problem detection and reducing the time and cost to repair.

That interop is set for next month, CableLabs CEO Phil McKinney noted during a conversation aboard his private bus, which was parked on the show floor of last week's Cable-Tec Expo in Denver.

"We're pretty hyper-focused on DOCSIS 4.0," McKinney said.

Last week's show was marked by some major strides on DOCSIS 4.0, including Comcast's first deployment of the technology in Colorado Springs, and a new unified chip from Broadcom and Comcast that supports both flavors of D4.0: Full Duplex and Extended Spectrum DOCSIS.

This year's Cable-Tec Expo, an event that celebrated its 40th anniversary, drew more attendees than the show did when it was hosted in Denver in 2017, according to McKinney. The 2017 gathering drew about 8,000 attendees.
