Fixed wireless access was once a shadowy and poorly understood threat to Internet providers like cable companies. Now it's clearer and more mature, and no longer the unknown danger it once was.
Texas network operator Alpheus aims new 100Gbit/s Ethernet offering at data, backhaul needs of large enterprises and carriers.

HOUSTON -- Alpheus Communications, a leading provider of Texas metro-regional fiber and networking solutions, has launched 100GB service to meet customers’ growing needs to more efficiently deliver data on higher-bandwidth circuits between and within Texas’ major metropolitan areas, including Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston.
Demand for 100GB service is driven by the need for larger backbone network capacity to support ever-increasing mobile data traffic and data-intensive enterprises, especially those in healthcare, oil and gas, and financial industries, that analyze, process and transport very high data loads as part of their everyday operations.
“Alpheus recognized our customers’ need for higher bandwidth, and as we have done with previous infrastructure enhancements, we committed considerable capital to keep our network ahead of the curve for services at the next level of bandwidth,” said Francisco Maella, chief operating officer of Alpheus Communications. “Just as there was a rapid migration from 1GB to 10GB services, we believe that carriers and enterprises will soon jump from 10GB to 100GB services as big data and other business realities drive higher-bandwidth requirements. Alpheus can deliver 100GB services to carriers and enterprise customers quickly and without complexity.”
Managed Wavelength solutions from Alpheus help carriers and large businesses easily aggregate network traffic without spending the capital required to build, light and manage their own fiber networks. With Alpheus, companies can maintain the freedom to run all the multiple applications required for their business operations while Alpheus manages the network and scales the bandwidth to what is needed.
