PARIS -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and «Transtelecom» JSC, one of the leading service providers in Kazakhstan,today announced that they have signed a USD 100 million agreement to modernize the telecommunication network of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the state-owned railway and the vital corridor for the country.
Under the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will deliver its solutions to build a fast, reliable and efficient mission-critical WAN infrastructure that will enable the delivery of new services and upgrade passenger and cargo traffic handling capabilities to international standards – which is of strategic importance to the Republic of Kazakhstan. The implementation of this project will enable to enhance the reliability of the signalling system of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ).
The improved performance of the railway network can help strengthen the Kazakh economy and increase the competitiveness of exports on the international market, based on the need to move huge volumes of various cargos over long distances. Once the project completed, the lengths of the fiber-optic based network will be extended by 4,000 km.
