PASADENA, Calif. -- Umachines, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of MEMS optical networking components, today announced the introduction of 5 new products: MEMS Variable Optical Attenuator (VOA), On-Off MEMS Switch, MEMS Attenuator + On-Off MEMS Switch Hybrid, 1x2 MEMS Switch & 2x2 Add-Drop MEMS Switch. The MEMS Variable Optical Attenuator (VOA), measuring 30mm x 13mm x 10mm, provides monotonic dynamic attenuation between one input fiber and one output fiber for a number of optical networking functions, including dynamic gain equalization, gain-tilt control in optical amplifiers and dynamic power equalization in optical add/drop multiplexers, cross-connects and transponders. The MEMS VOA has a dynamically controllable attenuation range of 0 to 30dB and operates across a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions. At the 0dB attenuation setting, the MEMS VOA has an ultra low typical insertion loss of 0.3dB. The Digital On-Off MEMS Switch, measuring 30mm x 13mm x 10mm, provides an extinction ratio of more than 60dB in the optically “off” position. In the optical “on” position, it has an ultra low typical insertion loss of 0.3dB. This MEMS On-Off Switch can be used as a safety shutter for lasers and detectors during system power up. The MEMS Attenuator + MEMS On-Off Switch Hybrid, measuring 30mm x 13mm x 10mm, is a MEMS Variable Optical Attenuator with 0 to 30dB dynamic attenuation range that also features an optically “off” position to achieve more than 60dB of attenuation. This hybrid has low typical insertion loss of 0.3dB. This Digital 1x2 MEMS Switch, measuring 38mm x 20mm x 11mm, provides channel selection between one input fiber and two output fibers for a number of network functions, including protection, reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing (ROADM), monitoring and provisioning. The switch operates across a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions and over the full wavelength range of 1280 nm to 1610 nm independent of signal transmission data rates or protocol. This 1x2 MEMS Switch has low typical insertion loss of 0.4dB. The Digital 2x2 Add-Drop MEMS Switch, measuring 38mm x 20mm x 11mm is a blocking 2x2 switch. In the bypass state, the Input and Output ports are connected to each other (express path). In the inserted state, the Input and Drop ports are connected to each other (drop path), and the Add and Output ports are connected to each other (add path). The switch is designed to operate across a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions and over the full wavelength range of 1280 nm to 1610 nm independent of signal transmission data rates or protocol. This 2x2 Add-Drop MEMS Switch has low typical insertion loss of 0.4dB. Umachines Inc.
