PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Telcordia Technologies (www.telcordia.com) today announced that Daniel J. Carroll, Jr., President and CEO, has been appointed by President George W. Bush to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC). The NSTAC, which is comprised of leaders from throughout the communications industry, provides industry-based analyses and recommendations to the President and the executive branch regarding policy and enhancements to National Security and Emergency Preparedness communications policy. This high-profile appointment acknowledges Telcordia's leadership position in the communications industry worldwide.

“Serving as an advisor to the President of the United States is a great honor,” Carroll said. "I believe that Telcordia’s extensive innovation, experience and reach in the communications industry will be a positive addition to this committee, which helps shape national security and emergency preparedness to protect America’s citizens and its economy."

President Ronald Reagan created the NSTAC by Executive Order 12382 in September 1982. Since then, NSTAC has served four Presidents. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through its National Communications System (NCS) group, oversees the committee, which provides advice directly to the President. National Security and Emergency Preparedness enable the Government to make an immediate and coordinated response to all emergencies, whether caused by a natural disaster, such as a hurricane, an act of terrorism, such as the Oklahoma City bombing and the September 11th attacks, a man-made disaster, or a cyber attack. National security and emergency preparedness communications allow the President and other senior Administration officials to be continually accessible, even under stressed conditions.

The NSTAC includes up to 30 President-appointed industry leaders representing various areas of the telecommunications industry. Current NSTAC members include Duane Ackerman, President, Chairman and CEO of BellSouth; Gary Forsee, President and CEO of Sprint Nextel; and Randall Stephenson, COO of ATT.

Carroll was named President and CEO of Telcordia in September 2005. He has more than 35 years of experience and leadership in the communications industry, including executive-level positions at Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies.

Carroll is the second Telcordia executive appointed to a Presidential advisory group this year. In June, Dr. Marek E. Rusinkiewicz, Vice President and General Manager of the company's Information and Computer Sciences Research Laboratory, was appointed to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) Networking and Information Technology Technical Advisory Group.
