Carl Showalter, former Juniper Networks, UUNet, and WorldCom exec, joins Lightspeed Venture Partners as general partner

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Lightspeed Venture Partners, a leading early stage technology venture capital firm with $2.3 billion under management, announced today that Carl Showalter has joined the firm as a general partner focusing on communications investments. Carl is the former Vice President of Marketing for Juniper Networks. "Carl brings strong operational experience from both the service provider and equipment manufacturer sectors to his role at Lightspeed, " said Gill Cogan, general partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners. Carl has more than 12 years of experience in the communications industry. Most recently, as Vice President of Marketing at Juniper Networks, he built and led the global marketing and business development teams and helped drive the expansion of the company's focus from carrier core routing to routing solutions for carrier edge, mobile carriers and cable operators. Prior to joining Juniper Networks, Carl served as Vice President of Dial and Broadband Services for UUNET Technologies and WorldCom, where he directed the business strategy, marketing, and engineering for UUNET's $2 billion global dial and broadband services business.
