CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Luminous Networks, the industry's first provider of carrier-class Gigabit Ethernet over Fibre metro access systems, today launched its intelligent optical solutions in Europe. Unlike other optical networking solutions, the Luminous PacketWaveTM family of carrier-class switches has been developed specifically for the metro access market and provides the intelligence necessary for operators to quickly deploy bandwidth intensive services to meet growing customer requirements.
"Service providers are in the midst of a major technology and business transformation, as they upgrade their systems to carry the explosion of Internet-based traffic," said Alex Naqvi, Luminous Networks' president and CEO. "However, the build-out of optical networks is impeded by carriers' ability to scale the networks to handle not only the growing IP-based data traffic, but also carrier-class voice services. Luminous is the first provider to address this urgent need for the metro optical market, with an intelligent, efficient solution."
