LOS ANGELES -- DMG Technologies, a manufacturer of optical subassemblies used in telecom, datacom, CATV, and instrumentation systems, today introduced a family of new avalanche photodiodes (APD). These APDs are available in either 1.25 or 2.5 Gbps versions and in three different packaging configurations - pigtails, TO cans, or the increasingly popular, industry-standard 14-pin butterfly format.

These long-wavelength InGaAs APDs operate over a wavelength range extending from 1250 to 1620 nm with a typical sensitivity of -34 dBm. They are available with a choice of FC/PC, SC, ST, or LC connector. They also come in three types that address different requirements with respect to bandwidth, linearity, and power dissipation, as well as offering a selection of three different low noise MMIC pre-amplifiers.

"This new family of APDs has numerous applications," stated Mohsen Nasiri, DMG Vice President. "These include: - DWDM long-reach or metro SDH STM-16 and SONET OC-48 telecom
- Analog receivers to 1.8 GHz
- Digital video
- Line terminals.
They are very versatile and robust to provide maximum customer value."

Malcolm McLean, DMG CEO, added, "In response to customer demand, this product family is just one of a number of new products being introduced at OFC/NFOEC 2006. (See separate press release.) They are in addition to our recently announced strategic partnership with SVEDICE, Järfälla, Sweden. This agreement affords DMG Technologies the opportunity to incorporate SVEDICE-designed products into its own lines of optical subassemblies, as well as distribute Svedice products in North America. SVEDICE provides customized InP-based semiconductor processing and design services, including 1310 nm and 1550 nm lasers, as well as PIN- and APD-based receivers for 2.5 Gbps and 10 Gbps applications. As a result of these actions, DMG will continue to deliver outstanding value that incorporates first-class technology, high quality, and attractive pricing."
