Sir Richard promises an "eye-popping" display for Virgin's US launch
July 22, 2002
And you thought that New York's Times Square had managed to shake off its sleazy image of peep shows and X-rated flea pits, didn't you? Well, not all corporations are Disney, and it seems Sir Richard Branson is planning to put a little of the ol' bump and grind back on the square this Wednesday -- all by himself.
The Brit entrepreneur's Virgin Mobile USA LLC plans to kick off its stateside service launch with an "outrageous outdoor event and press conference" on the Square this Wednesday.
We're promised that the streets will be flooded by "red people" and Sir Richard himself will be giving an "eye-popping performance…proving Virgin Mobile's promise to fed-up cell phone users that 'We have nothing to hide!' "
Frankly, we're scared already. Seems like some people will do anything, and we mean anything, to sell a few phones to jaded U.S. teens.
