BOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Coriolis Networks, Inc., a supplier of third-generation SONET/SDH metro optical networking solutions, today announced that VIC TOKAI, a leading integrated network service provider of value-added network solutions and services, has deployed the Coriolis OptiFlow™ multi-service provisioning platform as part of its multi-million dollar metro Ethernet network that will serve more than 2,000 enterprise and ISP customers across Japan.

Nissho Electronics, a leading network systems integrator and Coriolis partner since 2002, provided sales, service and support for the VIC TOKAI deployment and actively markets Coriolis Networks products in Japan.

The Ethernet service applications deployed by VIC TOKAI include multipoint virtual local area network (VLAN) service with ADSL connections to end users, Internet access and Ethernet private line services. These services enable VIC TOKAI to deliver a tailored service package to enterprise and ISP customers that combine guaranteed bandwidth and burst bandwidth on a fully redundant survivable SONET/SDH ring network. VIC TOKAI is deploying the new services this month.

“Nissho Electronics and Coriolis worked closely with us to provide a customized network configuration that seamlessly integrates with our existing DWDM backbone while providing superior bandwidth management capabilities compared to the alternatives,” said Masahiko Takada, general manager, Telecommunications Division, VIC TOKAI. “The Coriolis technology enables us to offer new enhanced Ethernet services that provides us with a competitive edge in serving enterprise and ISP customers.”

“We competed against both incumbent and start-up vendors for this project that were offering legacy SONET/SDH, Ethernet and RPR (Resilient Packet Ring) transport solutions,” stated Koji Makino, general manager, Network Infrastructure Business Promotion Division, Nissho Electronics Corp. “With the advanced bandwidth management capabilities of the Coriolis Networks' third-generation SONET/SDH technology we delivered to VIC TOKAI the most cost-effective and efficient network solution available.”

“Nissho Electronics is a great partner and together we are aggressively gaining market acceptance in Japan as part of our larger push into Asia,” said Robert L. Castle, president and CEO of Coriolis Networks. “We expect that carriers in Japan and China will account for a significant portion of our revenues in the coming year as they continue to expand their metro Ethernet service capabilities.”
