Converged & Connected: A Vision of the Near Future

Welcome to Research Rewind, a weekly recap of published telecom research and blogs from Pyramid Research and Heavy Reading.

This week we're focusing on converged multiservice access platform (CMAP), connected TVs and IPTV, plus looking ahead to new reports from Pyramid Research. It's all this week in a "CMAP"-y edition of Research Rewind.

  • In the new Heavy Reading Insider, "CMAP: A Milestone on the Road to Cable Convergence," Contributing Analyst Craig Leddy examines the converged multiservice access platform (CMAP) and why he believes it is "an important step toward eliminating the barriers between video and data capabilities that have kept them within separate silos." In his companion Heavy Lifting blog post, "Looking for Convergence? Use a CMAP," Leddy notes that "CMAP supports an expansion and integration of advanced video, voice and data services for cable customers."

  • Later today look for a brand-new Heavy Reading report, "Connected TVs Will Help Drive Big Changes in Video Services." This report examines the impact of CTVs from the perspective of IPTV market suppliers, including those also developing software for CTVs, and examines how the industry is responding to the challenge these sets pose.

  • What about IPTV uptake in Central & Eastern Europe? As Pyramid Research analyst Sylwia Boguszewska notes in her new Pyramid Points blog post, "A Mixed Picture for IPTV Uptake in CEE," it's, well, a mixed picture, with some markets doing well, while others are lagging.

  • Coming soon from Pyramid Reserach, look for Country Intelligence Reports examining five-year telecom market trends in key markets such as Taiwan, South Africa, Germany and Spain, among others. We'll also be producing Insider reports on trending topics such as mobile social networks and cloud computing. Watch this space for publication announcements.

  • Just a reminder that there's still time to register for the upcoming Making Money on Mobile Broadband conference in Brazil in June. For more details, see Pyramid Research Director Sonia Jorge's Pyramid Points, "Brazil Gets Serious about Broadband."

That's Research Rewind for this week. Until next Friday, we'll see you online at Pyramid Research and Heavy Reading. May the telecom be with you!
