PETALUMA, Calif. -- Samsung, a global leader in the telecommunications industry, and Teknovus, the leading provider of Gigabit Ethernet Optical Network (GEPON) chipsets for deployment of triple-play services in broadband access networks, announced that Korea Telecom has selected the Samsung Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) solution, based on Teknovus' chips, for major deployment throughout Korea. Korea Telecom, Korea's largest service provider, is deploying Samsung's FTTH solution to build a nationwide broadband network that will deliver premium grade triple-play services.

Mr. Byunghwa Choi, VP of Technology Evaluation Department at Korea Telecom, stated, "We are meeting the growing bandwidth demands of our technologically-advanced Korea population with our FTTH network. Teknovus' chipsets fulfilled our requirements for enabling advanced video services while meeting strict performance and cost parameters. We continue to be impressed with Teknovus' highly-integrated solutions and OAM (Operations, Administration, Management) which enable easier installation and support."

Samsung's GEPON-FTTH solution enables service providers to cost-effectively deliver triple-play services over a passive FTTH network. Mr. Youngcheol Oh, VP of BcN Access Development/Telecommunication System Division of Samsung, remarked, "We are delighted to have been selected by Korea Telecom. Together with Teknovus, we are enabling Korea Telecom to transition from a copper-based, last-mile network to a fiber-based infrastructure, taking advantage of lower OPEX while adding premium services. We selected Teknovus based on its carrier-grade functionality, ease of integration and proven chips and software."
