PARIS -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) today announced that it has been selected by Maxis, the leading Malaysian mobile service provider, to deploy a next-generation, all-IP network to support ADSL broadband access services.

Under the terms of the three-year contract, Lucent will provide Maxis with its AnyMedia® Line Access Gateway (LAG). Lucent will replace existing Maxis legacy access systems (used to support traditional voice services) with Lucent´s next generation AnyMedia LAG 1900 and 4300 systems, access gateways that support narrowband as well as broadband and leased line services in a single system. With Lucent´s AnyMedia solution, Maxis will be able to offer ADSL services to both new and existing customers.

"Lucent, as a long standing technology partner, has helped us from the beginning to evolve our network toward a converged broadband network," said Dr. Nikolai Dobberstein, Head of Products & New Businesses of Maxis. "Lucent's solutions will enable us to move toward a single, IP-based network to support high-speed ADSL capabilities." Lucent Worldwide Services will provide a variety of professional services such as installation, integration and system quality assurance for the deployment.

"Malaysia, and the Asian Region, are important NGN markets for Lucent and we appreciate the opportunity to assist Maxis, a recognized leader in the delivery of advanced services, in moving to an IP-based next-generation network," said Bart Vogel, president, Lucent Technologies Asia Pacific.
