RED BANK, N.J. -- Axonlink, a leading provider of optical wave division multiplexing solutions, today announced the completion of its Agile Wave Division Multiplexing (AWDM) demonstration system. The AWDM technology was demonstrated at Axonlink’s corporate headquarters in New Jersey to selected customers and press representatives.AWDM is the first commercial implementation of a well researched optical receiving technology known as heterodyne optics. Axonlink’s AWDM transceiver features full transmit and receive tunability using off-the-shelf optical components, enabling a low cost and agile alternative to DWDM and CWDM optics. AWDM demonstrates 6db receiver sensitivity better than leading industry APD receivers. Other benefits include easier amplification than CWDM and DWDM, as low as 12.5Ghz wavelength spacing and simple low cost fiber interface using colorless splitters.Axonlink targets adoption of AWDM for wavelength services, fiber relief and fiber to the building (FTTB) access and metro applications where it significantly reduces carrier capital and operational expenditures.“We are proud to announce the first known commercial implementation of our heterodyne optics,” said Dror Nahumi, Axonlink’s CEO. “Utilizing the prior knowledge developed by optical research engineers world-wide and Axonlink’s new intellectual property, we were able to cross major technical hurdles. We can now demonstrate an agile, low cost and reliable alternative to complex fixed WDM optics. We are committed to optimizing the technology for access and metro applications utilizing state-of-the-art optical and electrical integration technologies” Axonlink Inc.
