the "Best IoT Innovation Platform Award"

China Unicom Guangdong, Huawei, and TD Tech established the 5G RedCap Joint Innovation Hub in April 2023. With this agile working mode, they have collaborated with leading manufacturing enterprises in the GBA and launched the industry's largest 5G RedCap commercial network of 10,000+ sites, incubated 20+ RedCap commercial modules and terminals, and rolled out 10+ RedCap smart manufacturing applications. Their successful practice through industry collaboration is a key milestone in enabling 5G RedCap commercialization on a large scale, which will press the acceleration button for streamlining the “last mile”of industry digitalization with 5G.

Through the converged innovation of 5G, cloud, AI and computing technology, China Unicom Guangdong, Huawei, and TD Tech has developed an innovative platform to improve the IoT network operation efficiency with massive connections. In the past, manufacturing enterprises were hesitated in expanding the use of 5G because of the lack of comprehensive and real-time monitoring solutions of network status. The 5G RedCap network awareness and analysis platform jointly developed by China Unicom Guangdong, Huawei, and TD Tech can send waring messages of sub-healthy 5G network links in advance and perform accurate diagnose of 5G faults at the IP address level, improving the network risk warning efficiency by 90% and network fault locating efficiency by 30%.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is a global manufacturing center and one of the most digitalized areas in China, with more than one million SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) in the upstream and downstream of the industry chains. However, SMEs are often plagued by lack of capital, technology and talent during digital transformation. China Unicom Guangdong, Huawei, and TD Tech collaborated to facilitate the digital transformation of SMEs with a series of standardized products and services of 5G RedCap, which can be visualized and customized with cost greatly reduced. Up till now,the 5G RedCap products and services have served 1500+ SMEs in 40+ subdivided industries in the GBA. Furthermore, these products and services have been promoted through the China Unicom Group in 10 provinces in China, including Shanghai, Shandong, Tianjin, and Jiangsu etc.

RedCap is the key technology in increasing the value of IoT connections and achieving the goal of 5G IoT "10 Billion Connections". In the future, China Unicom Guangdong, Huawei, and TD Tech will accelerate the construction of a ubiquitous 5G RedCap medium- and high-speed IoT infrastructure in the GBA in terms of network, application, and ecosystem. They will work together to build a set of commercial benchmarks for 5G RedCap, to promote its commercial applications in multiple industries, and to strengthen the support for SMEs, allowing the digital economy in the GBA to flourish.
