Nvidia bid to reshape 5G needs Ericsson and Nokia buy-in
Ericsson, Nokia and other kit vendors are being courted by Nvidia, which now says it has no ambition to be a 5G software company.
Apple is now advertising for an engineer who is familiar with the evolution of 5G to understand how it can be combined with other networks in the future.
Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) is currently looking for an Inter-Operability Development and Performance Engineer to help its devices work over cellular and WiFi networks while watching the "5G Standardization" process, which has just started and will play out in two phases through 2019.
"The candidate will be part of the Inter-Operability Development and Performance team, working with cross-functional teams on technical investigations/systems prototyping with carriers and infrastructure vendors to ensure best user experience on carrier Cellular/Wifi/ IMS networks," Apple notes.

This appears to be one of the first times that Apple has referenced 5G in its job requirements, although it has previously asked for engineers who were familiar with future 5G radios. (See Apple Quietly Hiring for 5G?)
Apple hasn't typically been on the cutting-edge of cellular radio with the launch of its devices so far. In fact, rival Samsung Corp. is already a leader in developing 5G radios and devices. Apple does, however, appear to be getting further into 5G now.
